Meet Ruth, a talented designer with a passion for creating unique designs in the licensing industry. After studying Fashion Studies at University, she got her first job as a menswear designer before moving into the licensing industry. Over the years, she has worked with various licenses and customers, witnessing the industry's growth and development.
"When I was working on SpongeBob designs, the printer kept running out of yellow ink. That little yellow fella has a nice warm place in my heart!" Ruth says, reflecting on her early days in the licensing industry. "It's interesting to see how the industry has developed and grown over the years."
Ruth joined Erve in March 2022, and since then, her day-to-day work has been a mix of researching, designing, and collaborating with the team. "Every day is different, which is a great aspect of working in licensing," she says. "Starting a new project, I do some research, think about the buyer's preferences, gather lots of pics, decide on a color pallet and then get designing."
What Ruth loves most about her job is the variety. "As all the licenses are so different, it's great to go from working on a classic license like The Care Bears to designing new licenses like Bluey and then researching hot licenses like One Piece," she says. "It's fascinating to get into the characters and create designs that connect with people."
Ruth's expertise in working with UK accounts makes her a valuable asset to the Erve team. "Having worked predominately on UK accounts, I have a broad knowledge of what the customers want here in the UK," she says. In addition, her experience in working with EU accounts enables her to understand the needs of both markets."I also have knowledge of print techniques and am a big Bluey fan!"
When it comes to Dudas, Ruth's favorite is the Positive Duda. "There is always a positive in any situation, no matter how bad it seems. A happy positive attitude helps overcome any obstacle," she says.
Looking ahead, Ruth expects the licensing industry to continue growing and evolving, particularly with the rise of gaming. "People are wanting more than ever to connect with one another. Entertainment is a great way to come together," she says. "Evergreen licenses like Sonic that the kids are playing now are what their parents were playing when they were kids, creating that nostalgic connection and bringing the parents and kids together to play."
Ruth's passion for licensing design and her expertise make her a valuable asset to the Erve team. We are excited to see what she will create next and how she will continue to shape the licensing industry!
